Sing Sing is a sculpture in the shape of a metal fence, which seems to be leading nowhere and doesn’t enclose anything. The fence was made in a particular way, so that when you tap the different bars with a stick, you can hear the melody of Ah, vous dirai-je maman (Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star). The lengths of the different bars create a variation in pitch. The distances between the different bars provide the rhythm.

The famous song refers to the carefree childhood of Van Simaey. Ah, vous dirai-je maman is a children’s song that goes back to a famous folk song of the 18th century. The work is an invitation for the visitors to let themselves be immersed in this nostalgia for our childhood years.
