We can read the oeuvre of Peter Friedl (°1960, Oberneukirchen) as a continuation of the dematerialization process of the artwork, begun by the emergence of Conceptual Art in the 1960s. Friedl’s multifaceted works and projects are models for awareness: they explore the construction of history and question the conditions and limits of current artistic practices. By adopting a variety of genres, media and forms of display, Friedl remodels them into a method to undermine and disarm configurations of power. Critical intimacy and permanent displacement are the key features of his practice.
