P.O.F. N° 65, Ballon Carré

6 Bubox, Korte Kapucijnenstraat indoor

tue-sun 13h-17h (mon closed)

Material: Leather

This object was created in the context of the celebration that was unleashed when France won its first World Cup title in 1998. It is an impractical object that transmits a critical and ironic message. Hyber’s Ballon Carré is simply a functional object that has been turned into the ideal form of the cube. The artist even stated that his invention permits people to play football at the ‘four corners of the globe’. The idealised cubed football maps, created to illustrate this idea, are Duchamp-like practical jokes. To understand the artist’s universe, one needs to grasp his tongue-in-cheek humour.
