Biography

Christian Jankowski (°1968) is an artist exploring the possibilities of conceptual and performance art. He uses different media: video and photography, painting, sculpture and drawing. Jankowski's work analyses the possible connections that can be made between visual art and other fields of study, like religion, business, politics, commerce or entertainment. 

Recent solo shows include Die Legende des Künstlers und andere Baustellen, Haus am Lützowplatz, Berlin (2016), Christian Jankowski. Retrospective, Contemporary Fine Arts, Berlin (2016), Heavy Weight History, CCA Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw (2013), Casting Jesus, MACRO, Rome (2012) and Dienstbesprechung, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (2008).  In 1999 and 2013 the artist participated in the Venice Biennial, in 2010 in The Taipei Biennial and in 2017 in The Yokohama Triennial. Jankowski holds a professorship at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and curated the 11th edition of Manifesta in Zürich (CH).
